Using Parental Controls

With SurryTV’s Parental Block, you can choose the type of content that can be viewed on each television set based on movie and TV ratings. With this convenient option, you can choose to allow your children’s TVs to show only “G” – rated materials, while you can enjoy your favorite shows on your television in another room. The process is quite simple, here’s how:

Click the MENU button on your remote control.

Use the down arrow buttons to choose “settings” and click OK.

Enter your password and click OK. (The default password is 1234. We strongly recommend that this be changed immediately. See instructions below to change password.)

You will be on the “Preferences” tab. This is indicated by a green box around the word “Preference”. Use the down arrow button to choose “Parental Controls” and click OK. A check should appear in the box to the left of “Parental Controls.”

Use your right arrow button to select “Edit” and press OK. If asked to save changes, select “Yes”. Press OK when settings are successfully updated. (If “Channel Blocking” is already checked, this step will not apply.)

You are now on the “Users” tab. This is indicated by a green box around “Users.”

To set your Movie Rating Controls, use your down arrow button to move to the movie rating and press OK. Use the left and right arrow buttons to select the highest movie rating that you would like to be viewed on this television set and press OK. (For more information on movie ratings, see next page.)

To set your TV Rating Controls, use the down arrow button to move to the TV rating and press OK. Use the left and right arrow buttons to select the highest TV rating that you would like to be viewed on this television set and press OK. (For more information on TV ratings, see next page.)

You can also choose to change the unlock timeout feature. This allows you to temporarily override parental control settings by entering your PIN number. (The default PIN number is the last four digits of your phone number.) The standard Unlock Timeout is automatically set to 30 minutes. Use the down arrow button to move to the Unlock Timeout feature and press OK. Use the left and right arrow buttons to increase or decrease time allowed.

To Block by Content Rating, use your down arrow button to move to the content rating listings (i.e. Violence, Suggestive Language, etc.) Select each rating that you wish to block and press OK to make a check appear next to that rating. When you are finished, use your arrow buttons select “Submit” and press OK.

A message will appear stating that your settings have been successfully updated. Press OK and Exit (located above the blue button) to return to your TV viewing.
