CALL WAITING
Let’s you know if someone else is calling when you are on the telephone.

HOW TO USE CALL WAITING:

  1. If while on the phone you hear a short “beep,” you will know someone else is trying to reach your number. To answer the second call without ending the first, press and release the switch hook button quickly. Your first call is placed on “hold” while you are connecting with the second caller.
  2. To return to the first call, press and release the switch hook button quickly.
  3. By pressing and releasing the switch hook button you can alternate between callers and each conversation is private.

 

 

CANCEL CALL WAITING

Eliminates Call Waiting tones from interrupting conversations, facsimile transmissions, internet and computer modems.

HOW TO USE CANCEL CALL WAITING BEFORE MAKING A CALL:

  1. *70 Press *70 (on a rotary phone dial 1170) from your touch-tone phone.
  2. Dial the number you want to reach.

TO USE CANCEL CALL WAITING DURING A CALL:

(REQUIRES THREE-WAY CALLING)

  1. Press and release the switch hook button quickly to place the call on hold.
  2. *70 After hearing the dial tone, press *70 (on a rotary phone dial 1170).
  3. Press and release the switch hook button quickly and return to your call.

SPEED CALLING

Stores the numbers you call frequently, then dials them with just the push of one or two buttons.

PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPEED CALLING 8 OR 30:

  1. Choose a one-digit code (numbers 2 through 9) for Speed Calling 8. Choose a two-digit code (numbers 20 through 49) for Speed Calling 30 for each number you wish to enter.
  2. *74 Press *74 (on a rotary phone dial 1174) for Speed Calling 8.
  3. *75 Press *75 (on a rotary phone dial 1175) for Speed Calling 30.
  4. Wait for dial tone. Enter the code you have selected and complete telephone number including the 1 plus area code for long distance numbers. Two beeps will confirm your entry. Then hang up.
  5. To change a number on your Speed Calling list, repeat steps one, two and three. The old numbers will be automatically replaced in memory with the new number.

TO USE SPEED CALLING 8 OR 30:

  1. Press the speed dial digits that correspond to the number you want to reach.
  2. Example: Dial 22# (on a rotary phone, dial 22) and your call will be dialed automatically.
  3. Toll charges apply on long distance calls.

THREE WAY CALLING
Add a third party to your conversation.
Works locally and for long distance numbers.

 

ADDING A THIRD PARTY TO YOUR CALL:

  1. Press and release the switch hook to put your first party on hold.
  2. After hearing the dial tone, dial your third party.
  3. When your third party answers, press and release the switch hook button, this connects all three parties.

TO END THREE-WAY CALLING:
Press and release the switch hook button to disconnect the last party. If either party hangs up, you may continue to speak with the remaining party.

CALL RETURN
Returns calls to the number that called you.
Solve the mystery of who’s calling.

 

TO USE CALL RETURN:

*69 Press *69 (on a rotary phone dial 1169). Listen for announcement that will tell you the phone number of your last caller and will ask if you want to return the call. Just follow the voice instructions.

IF THE LINE IS BUSY:

  1. Hang up. Your phone will try getting the line for up to thirty minutes.
  2. You will hear a special call back ring when the line becomes available.
  3. Your call will automatically be placed when you lift the headset.

TO CANCEL CALL RETURN:

*89 Press *89 (on a rotary phone dial 1189), listen for tone or announcement. Hang up.

REPEAT DIALING
Repeat Dialing allows your phone to continuously attempt to redial a number that is busy.
You will be alerted with a special ring when the line is free.

 TO USE REPEAT DIALING:

  1. When you hear a busy signal, press and release the switch hook to get dial tone.
  2. *66 Press *66 (on a rotary phone dial 1166). Your phone will keep trying the line for up to thirty minutes.
  3. You will hear a special ring when the line is free.
  4. Pick up the headset and your call will automatically be made.

CALL TRACE
This feature allows you to trace annoying telephone calls. By dialing a special code you can trace the call and the telephone number of the caller will be printed at your local telephone company.

TO USE CALL TRACE:

  1. After receiving the annoying call, hang up.
  2. Lift the headset, listen for the tone.
  3. *57 Press*57 (on a rotary phone dial 1157), listen to the voice instructions to dial an additional code and then the call will be traced.
  4. Listen for confirmation announcement.

NOTES: You must activate Call Trace immediately after the annoying call. If another call comes in or if you hear a Call Waiting tone, you will trace the wrong call. When you receive an annoying call press down the switch hook to disconnect. Once disconnected and dial tone is on the line dial *57 or 1157 if you have a rotary phone. A recording will then come on the line telling you if the call has been traced and if it was traced dial 1 now. There is a one-dollar charge for each call traced. If you do not dial the 1 the call will not print out on our equipment and can not be traced. Should you trace the call during our normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday then call our representative at 611 and if after hours please call the next working day. If the call was traced successfully our representative will document the call. Once you receive three calls from the same number within a thirty day period then this information will be forwarded to the appropriate Sheriff’s Department. You will then contact that Sheriff’s Department for further action. Surry Telephone can not release any information concerning the calls directly to you. Some calls are reported by the recording as untraceable. These calls may come from out of our area or from some wireless providers and can not be traced.

 

CALL FORWARDING
This feature allows you to transfer your calls to another number of your choice. You don’t have to miss those important calls.

 TO USE CALL FORWARDING:

  1. *72 Lift handset. Press *72 (on a rotary phone dial 1172) and listen for a dial tone.
  2. Dial the telephone number you want your calls transfered to.

TO END CALL FORWARDING:

  1.  *73 Lift the handset. Press *73 (on a rotary phone dial 1173). Then you will hear two short “beeps” to let you know Call Forwarding is no longer activated.

NOTE: You will hear a short ring each time your number is dialed. You cannot answer the calls. This is just a reminder that Call Forwarding is still activated. You will be billed long distance charges for calls forwarded to a number outside your local area.

 

SELECTIVE CALL FORWARDING
Select only the telephone numbers you want forwarded and program the destination number to which they are forwarded. All other calls will ring at your phone as usual.

HOW TO USE SELECTIVE CALL FORWARDING:

  1.  *63 Press *63 (on a rotary phone dial 1163).
  2. Listen to voice instructions that will guide you through steps of how to turn on and off and how to make changes to your Selective Call Forwarding list.
  3. #01# To add the last caller to your forward list press #01# (on a rotary phone dial 1201).
  4. To enter your forward-to number, follow voice instruction.
  5. 0 To hear instructions again, press 0.
  6. You can store up to sixteen numbers on your forward list.

 

CALL FORWARDING BUSY/NO ANSWER
With this feature you can forward calls to another number when your line is busy or there is no answer after the specified number of rings.

HOW TO USE FORWARD BUSY/NO ANSWER:

  1. *90 Call Forwarding Busy, press *90 (on a rotary phone dial 1190). Listen for dial tone and enter the number to which the calls will be forwarded.
  2. *92 Call forwarding No Answer, press *92 (on a rotary phone dial 1192), and enter the number to which the calls will be forwarded.
  3. *91 To end Call Forwarding Busy, press *91 (on a rotary phone dial 1191).
  4. *93 To end Call Forwarding No Answer, press *93 (on a rotary phone dial 1193).
  5. Listen for two “beeps”, then hang up.

 

CENTRAL OFFICE CALL FORWARDING
This feature is ideal for that person that has moved to another permanent location. Your telephone company will forward your calls to that preselected location.

CALL FORWARDING HOT LINE
With this feature, the phone will automatically dial a preselected number if knocked off hook for more than thirty seconds. This is a nice feature for the disabled, elderly or handicapped person. Surry Telephone suggests optimal use of this feature by including Personal Ringing or Caller ID on the called party’s phone.

DISTINCTIVE RINGING
Create a list of up to sixteen numbers with one distinctive ring. The ring lets you know it’s one of the callers from your list. Works with Call Waiting and Caller ID.

TO USE DISTINCTIVE RINGING:

  1. *61 Press *61 (on a rotary phone dial 1161). Voice message lets you know if feature is on or off. It will also let you know how many numbers are stored in your list (if any).
  2. 3 Follow voice message and press 3 to turn the feature on and off.

TO ADD THE LAST CALLER TO YOUR LIST:

#01# Press #01# (on a rotary phone dial 1201).

TO ADD A NUMBER TO YOUR LIST:

# Press # (on a rotary phone dial 12) then follow voice instructions.

TO REMOVE A NUMBER FROM YOUR LIST:

* Press * (on a rotary phone dial 11) then follow voice instructions.

TO HEAR NUMBER ON YOUR LIST:

1Press 1. After the list is read follow voice instructions.

TO HEAR INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN:

0Press 0.

CALLER ID
See who the caller is before you answer. You can decide if you want to answer the call. Allows for more privacy and security. You will need a display phone or add-on unit. After the first full ring the caller’s number will appear on the display unit.

 FACTS ABOUT CALLER ID:

  1. The telephone number of the caller will appear on your display screen after the first full ring.
  2. The number will remain on the screen until you or the caller hangs up
  3. If the letter “P” of Private appears on your screen, the caller has blocked the display of their number. Its up to you whether to answer the call.
  4. If “Unknown Number” appears, the call is coming from an area or equipment where the information is not available.

CALLER ID/NAME & NUMBER DELIVERY
See who the caller is before you answer. Caller ID with name delivery works just like Caller ID with number delivery, but with this feature the caller’s name and telephone number are displayed.

ANONYMOUS CALL REJECTION
With this feature, you can reject callers who have blocked their number from being displayed on your Caller ID device.

TO USE ANONYMOUS CALL REJECTION:

  1. *77 Press *77 (on rotary phone dial 1177).
  2. After hearing the confirmation tone hang up.

TO CANCEL ANONYMOUS CALL REJECTION:

*87 Press *87 (on a rotary phone dial 1187).

NOTE: If caller has blocked their number from being displayed, they will hear an announcement that you do not accept anonymous calls and they should remove blocking and call again.

SELECTIVE CALL ACCEPTANCE
Selective Call Acceptance allows you to create a list of up to sixteen numbers from which you are willing to accept calls. All calls from numbers not on your list will be sent to an announcement stating that you are not receiving calls at this time.

TO USE SELECTIVE CALL ACCEPTANCE:

  1. *64 Press *64 (on a rotary phone dial 1164). An announcement will tell you if the feature is on or off. A pre-recorded voice will let you know how many, if any, numbers are stored on your list.
  2. 3 Press 3 to turn the feature on and off.

TO ADD THE LAST CALLER TO YOUR LIST:

#01# Press #1001# (on a rotary phone dial 1201).

TO ADD A NUMBER TO YOUR LIST:

# Press # (on a rotary phone dial 12) then follow voice instructions.

TO REMOVE A NUMBER FROM YOUR LIST:

* Press * (on a rotary phone dial 11) then follow voice instructions.

TO HEAR NUMBERS ON YOUR LIST:

1 Press 1 After the list is read follow voice instructions.

TO HEAR INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN:

0 Press 0.

SELECTIVE CALL REJECTION
Selective Call Rejection allows you to create a list of up to sixteen numbers from which you do not wish to receive calls. Their calls will be sent to an announcement stating that you are not receiving calls at this time. You may change numbers on your list at any time.

TO USE SELECTIVE CALL REJECTION:

  1. *60 Press *60 (on a rotary phone dial 1160). An announcement will tell you if the feature is on or off and also how many numbers are stored in your rejection list.
  2. 3 Press 3 to turn the feature on and off.
  3. #01# Press #01# (on a rotary phone dial 1201) to add the last caller to your list.
  4. # Press # (on a rotary phone dial 12) to add a number to your list. Follow voice instructions.
  5. * Press * (on a rotary phone dial 11) to remove a number from your list. Follow voice instructions
  6. 1 Press 1 to hear numbers on your reject list. Voice instructions will follow.
  7. 0 Press 0 to hear instructions again.

 

DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents callers from ringing your number except those with a personal identification number (PIN). You can change PIN numbers and turn the feature on and off as you desire. Callers that have no PIN will hear a busy signal.

HOW TO USE DO NOT DISTURB:

  1. *78 Press *78 (on a rotary phone dial 1178) to turn on. You will hear a high-pitched tone.
  2. *78Press *79 (on a rotary phone dial 1179) to turn the feature off. Listen for three beeps then hang up.

TO SET OR CHANGE PIN:

  1. *10 Press *10. Listen for three beeps and dial tone. Enter PIN (1-7 digits).
  2. # Press # (on a rotary phone dial 12) then listen for three beeps, then hang up.

NOTES:

  1. Rotary subscriber’s PIN will be put in by telephone company.
  2. All callers will receive busy signal when feature is on. Caller with PIN must enter PIN over the busy signal.
  3. Can receive calls only from callers with PIN from touch-tone phone.

DO NOT DISTURB – Telemarketers
With this feature, all calls go to a recording that tells the caller that this line does not accept calls from Telemarketers and if you are not a telemarketer, please dial 1 to complete the call. This feature should stop most of the telemarketing calls.

CALLER ID BLOCKING
Caller ID Blocking prevents your telephone number from showing on someone’s Caller ID display device.

TO USE CALLER ID BLOCKING:

*82 Press *82 (on a rotary phone dial 1182). Then dial the telephone number you are calling. The person you’ve called will not see your number on their display screen. Instead a “P” or “Private” will be displayed

NOTES: If you have requested Per-Line Blocking through your telephone company, you do not need to dial a code. All your calls will appear as “Private”. To turn off Per-Line Blocking (allowing your number to be displayed) on a individual call, press *82 (on a rotary phone dial 1182) before placing your call.

VOICE MAIL
Voice Mail is an easy to use answering service that offers several advantages over answering machines. All calls to Voice Mail are pass-code protected. Only you can get the messages because you create your own pass-code.

 

ADVANTAGES OF VOICE MAIL:

  1. Set number of rings before going to Voice Mail.
  2. A means of screening calls.
  3. Works with Call Waiting.
  4. Call in and get messages if away from home.
  5. Call in and change message if away from home.

EV MAIL
EV (Enhanced Voice Mail) offers the same advantage as Voice Mail but provides Page Activation and Visual Signaling.

NON PUBLISHED NUMBER
With this service your telephone number will not be published in the telephone directory and it will not be given out through directory assistance.

PERSONAL RINGING (Teen Service)
Great for roommates, teenagers and business. With personal ringing you have a second phone number with a distinctive ring with one phone line. You can determine who the call is for because of the unique ring. Get some of the benefits of a second line at a fraction of the cost. Works with Call Waiting and Caller ID.

INSIDE WIRE PROTECTION PLAN
We will maintain the wiring and telephone jacks in your home for a small monthly fee.

TOLL CONTROL WITH PIN
This feature allows you to control the toll calls from your line by using a pin number.

To use Toll Control with PIN

Lift handset and get dial tone, dial *13. Wait for coded dial tone and then dial your pin number followed by the # sign. You will then receive a coded dial tone and can now place the toll call.

To Change Pin Number

Lift handset and get dial tone, dial *12. Wait for coded dial tone and then dial your old pin number followed by the # sign. Another coded dial tone will come on line at which point you will then dial your new pin number followed by the # sign.

TOLL RESTIRCTIONS
No charge.

900 NUMBERS
We can block calls to 900 toll numbers at no charge.

COLLECT, THIRD PARTY, 0+, 1+, DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE AND INTERNATIONAL CALLS
These calls can be blocked from your phone at no charge.
